Time for a good rant. All the music companies and movie companies complain about piracy. Their solutions to sell individual tracks or allow you to "rent" a movie at the same price retail outlets charge. This is a fundamentally flawed approach. Take iTunes for example. 99 cents a song amounts to 13 per album (I know you can buy albums on iTunes, but the argument still applies) this roughly the same amount a cd can be purchase at Best Buy, which makes no sense at all. Best Buy has huge overhead and must up the prices to cover them. Lets say they mark up the wholesale prices 30% to cover their expenses. Already we're at 10 which is already less than a dollar per song for the average 13 song record. There are other expenses incurred in physical cds: packing, shipping, raw materials. All of which I would say would be about another 3 off the price. So now the record company makes 7 per album. They keep 90% and give 10% to the artist (if you think this is an exaggeration you need to read up). All in all they make 7 for a 13 song album which is about 54 cents a song. Now take iTunes, the music company incurs no additional expenses in distributing the song, all they do is upload to iTunes and sell for 99 cents a song. From the information I've read on this site that record companies take about 65% of each song, so that's 65 cents a song, when its costing them less work to do. Not only that you could go to a used record store and buy the physical cd for less and they don't make a dime of your purchase, but that's not pirating. Movielink is another shining example of the companies giving consumers "what they want". Its cost anywhere from 99 cents to $5 to rent a movie, and get this you can keep in on your computer for 30 days but once you start it, it only lasts for 24 hours. This is ridiculous, to put a name to the example, Kill Bill Vol. 1 is $5. I could go and rent it at Blockbuster, keep it anywhere from 3-5days depending on how new a release it is, maybe 7 if its pretty old. Watch it as many times as I want, and pay the same price or less. Not only that, I could be to Blockbuster and back before I could even download the movie. The fact is the corporates don't get it. Ya people are willing to wait 2 or more hours for a movie to download WHEN ITS FREE. The fact is for people to stop pirating stuff you can't charge brick and mortar prices at virtual stores, that is why people shop online to save money over brick and mortar pricing. Not only that, but you gotta stop producing crap. I mean how can these people honestly expect us to pay for some of this stuff? Rollerball? That damned milkshake song? I honestly think a better system needs to be developed or prices lowered. I hope that iTunes will let artists, any artist upload their music and say how much they want to charge on top of apples cut. That cuts out price gouging record companies and allows us to decided what we like rather than being force fed it by the clear channel world order. If that does happen I think it will be great. People will find new music and artists will become popular for musical talent rather than their plastic surgeons talent. We'll just have to see what happens, but one can hope. |

Everybody in this place can up and move away For all I care this towns already dead and empty Im told that Im the victim of obsession thats what my friends say Oh Im a fool for having ever let her tempt me
-Chorus- Well I turn pale when she walks by I am lost in her eyes She is always on my mind x2
She glances over but she keeps on walking down that street all i can do is hope that she is thinking of me if i could blink if i could breathe if i could get my legs to move Well this could be the day I get this girl to love me
-Chorus-
She had turned from a sound well i must have cried out loud she is always on my mindx2
If i could blink if i could breathe if i could get my legs to move well this could be the day i get this girl to love me
-Chorus-
She had turned from a sound well i must have cried out loud She is always on my mind

If we lived in another time I would be a king and you would be my queen Armies would kneel before you Scholars would attempt to capture your grace in words Sculptors would try and emulate your beauty in stone So that future generations may gaze upon it in awe I would rule with an iron fist and a golden heart The world would be ours But now is not then And you are not mine No one bows at your feet The only words written are mine The future eras will forget you And our world is dust |

I am convinced I was born in the wrong era. My ideal life is that of the wandering warrior. Traveling, honing my skill, and writing wrongs along the way. My subsistence would come from what I kill or the kindness of strangers. I can also see myself becomign a leader through battle. I guess I'm just lost as to what to do with myself in this present day and era. I'm not a freaking genius, I mean I'm not dumb, but I know many people who study harder than me or are just smarter than me. My primary interest is in political or battle strategy. One of my favorite books it The Art of War, I just started reading The Prince, and I have the Book of Five Rings sitting on my desk. Even though it seems like military would be a good match for me, I am disgusted by the current state of war. I pretty much have been disgusted with war ever since guns. The fact is any idiot can pick up a gun and kill people with it, no training or skill is necessary. When warriors were pitted against each other using swords, it was a beatiful thing. Two people who have trained their whole lives for that very moment. Two people of incredible skill, each fighting for their lives, there's a poetic beauty to it. If you ever seen someone who has mastered a martial art perform a demonstration or Kata, its a thing of beauty. Its ironic in the sense that if you didn't know what you were looking at it could be easily misinterpreted as a dance, yet if used against an enemy it can be deadly. Nowadays war requires no skill. A person can be trained and read for battle in a few weeks. Machines today a mostly automated, lives are decided at the push of a button. No real battle skill was ever involved. In the movie Troy there's a scene in which the entire outcome of a battle is decided in a one on one match. Imagine placing your faith and the fate of your country in one person. Think of the lives that would be saved if we still had such practices. |
